I live in Australia.
After 2 years of what was diagnosed as back pain by everyone from my family doctor onwards, after trying my family doctor, the chiropractor, physiotherapist, acupuncturist, alexander technique specialist and no improvement, my wife finally said "this is ridiculous you have to have a scan". I had an MRI scan and suddenly there it is: what the report suggested was either a chordoma or a giant cell tumor at the base of my spine. It measured 9cm x 7cm x 5.5cm. No wonder I could not sit properly!
This was removed within 5 weeks of the scan and I am now recovering from the surgery.
What I am surprised about is that every second charity appeal in Australia is for breast cancer, every second support service in Australia is for breast cancer and although chordomas are rare, not even the Cancer Council of Australia can offer me any information or support.
I have joined the Chordoma Foundation in the hope that it may lead me to others in Australia who have already been through this who may provide some information and support.
